  • Comment: The Midway arcade Treasures collection takes you back to a simpler time in gaming. A time where ostriches fly, newspapers are still delivered from bicycles, and root beer drinkers get distracted by can-can dancers. There are certainly some old favorites on here and they're just as addicting as when I was 7. Some original menus aren't available, I still can't figure out how to make some things two player, and I SWEAR the SINISTAR is moving faster than it used to but if all you want it to veg out and play something nostalgic pick this up. None of the games require much thought or strategy just practice at a regular set of motions...and after all wasn't that the best thing about video games!?

  • Comment: Midway has assembled 24 arcade games of yesteryear in this compilation. I don't believe anyone else did this, so here are the 24 games, alphabetically:

    Blaster
    Bubbles
    Defender I and II
    Gauntlet (up to 4 players)
    Joust I and II
    Klax
    Marble Madness
    Paperboy
    Rampage (up to 3 players)
    Rampart (up to 3 players)
    Roadblasters
    Robotron 2084
    Root Beer Tapper
    Satan's Hollow
    720
    Sinistar
    Smash TV
    Splat
    Spy Hunter
Super Sprint (up to 3 players)
    Toobin'
    Vindicators

This disc will definitely take you back in time. I remember playing Klax, Toobin', Marble Madness, Roadblasters, Joust, Defender, Robotron 2084 and Paperboy in the arcades, back in the 80s. I've played Root Beer Tapper, Smash TV, Splat and Bubbles on my PS1 from a Midway disc I bought for that system. A lot of the other games are fun as well, and as indicated, a few allow for more than two players.

The one bad thing is the controllers, which are a hinderance with a few of the games. Spy Hunter and Roadblasters aren't the same without a steering wheel, and with Marble Madness, you have to hold the controller at an angle, otherwise your timing will be off. Otherwise, this is one of the best "old school" discs to come out for the PS2. I rank it up there with the Atari and Activision anthologies. Midway has also released an Arcade Treasures 2 that I also reviewed. This one is better. Slightly more games, most of which were popular at the arcades back in the day.

  • Comment: Great game to have.I rember going to the arcade with a pocket full of quater's, to play defender it took a lot to learn the game in the late 70's early 80's, then they had the nerve too come out with Stargate, it was kind of hard to keep my piggy bank LOL full of chage, had to go play after school. As an adult the fun is back ,I love it tons of fun, really rusty very rusty!!!! The child hood memories Priceless. GRAET PURCHASE..........!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment: midway arcade classics is not a total waste of $. im tough when i rate a product...therefore u can avoid all the others here+i will gv u the skinny. like banging into walls with uncontrollable sprint car?...here s ur game. marblemadness? impossible to control. you get the idea. howevr, i hv given this 1 star because defender is barely playable+joust is ok,+ that retarded tank game atari 2600 is retarded bt playable+certainly set the standard for pickin up fuel and life pods +armour upgrades for all the present games of today. i ll let my young son loose on tht tank game as it teaches a little math as u buy stuff for your tank. just remember, the chink who transferred this to this platform is now sippin martinis on his own island with a paper umbrella in it...while u will wonder why u cant get ur car into the weapons van...and ur sprint car keeps blowin a hole in the wall on sprint. so to sum it up...if ur a major geek+ youre recovering from prostate surgery...it ll b mildly amusing til the oxycotin wears off.
